What sort of cabinet doors do I want?
The style of the door can define the tone of your room as much as the species of wood.
There are lots of different subtle differences between them. There are a few basic sorts,
of course, and each has within it lots of different characteristics.
The basic styles are:
Raised Panel
Riased panel is one of the more common, and still most popular, styles of door front for cabinets.
It is the traditional style that has been used for generations.
Flat Panel
Flat panel differs from the raised panel in what may seem to be the obvious way. Rather than
make a frame around a panel that has been beveled, as happens with the raised panel door, they
start with a flat piece of wood, and frame that in. The difference in visual texture is very noticeable,
and can give a slightly more contemporary feel to a kitchen or bath. This style also may allow for
a center rail down the middle of the door, creating a look that is hard to duplicate with
raised panel doors.
Slab
With a name like slab front doors, you would think that it is the most rustic of the bunch. This can
be true, but it actually tends to look more modern, with the right sort of hardware. The slab
front cabinets are pretty much just what they sound like - a simple, flat door front that is made up of
slats of wood that have been laminated together. The simple lines lend themselves easily to
a modern design.
There are other designs available, but the easiest description is a picture, which you can
