A backsplash is a part of a countertop or vanity top that has been common for quite a long time. Simply put, the backsplash is the piece of counter that follows the wall upward for about 3 or 4 inches. In some more modern applications, the backsplash covers the entire wall behind the stove and/or sink. It is generally attached directly to the countertop, and sealed so that should there be water or moisture of some sort spilled on the counter, the moisture will not run down over the back of the counter and down the wall behind your cabinets. Quite literally, the backsplash is at the back, and is there to help protect against splashes. |
