Balusters
Balusters are the small vertical pieces of wood or plastic that run along the underside of
a railing. They serve several purposes. They add some strength to the railing itself, supporting
it every few inches. They also help keep things (and often children) from slipping underneath
the railing and falling off of the deck or landing.
