Blueboard
Blueboard is a sort of wallboard that is applied over insulation, screwed into the wall
studs. It is made primarily of gypsum, and gives your walls a
solid feel. Generally the sheets are either 4' x 8' or 4' x 12', and either 3/8" or 1/2" thick.
There is also a 5/8" Firecode Blueboard that is ideal for the firewall in a garage or over
a boiler, where appearance may be important.
What makes blueboard different from sheetrock is the blue paper
on the surface. The color gives blueboard its name, but the differences go deeper. If you want
to have a plaster wall, then you ought to use blueboard. The blue paper is more resistant to
moisture, and so can handle the water content of the plaster as it is applied.
