Cedar Breather
Cedar breather is a product that has been used for years underneath
red cedar shingles on the roof and on walls. The breather creates a space between the wood shingles
and the polywood roof deck,increasing the air flow around them. This lets moisture in the
shingles escape, and so lengthens the life span of the roof.
The evaporation is necessary, so that rainwater does not simply sit in the shingle and
gradually cause rot.
Older techniques used perlons on the roof to achieve the same result. Cedar breather
is simply a modern approach.
