Clapboards
Clapboards are perhaps the most popular siding style in the Northeast. They are the sort of siding that looks like
a series of long rows of wood, nailed up horizontally with each row overlapping the one below it. They are generally made
from either cedar or pine, though there are cement-based products that are on the market now as well.
There are several advantages to this style of siding:
Water sheds down the wall relatively easily, rather than penetrate to the wall beneath the siding.
There are fewer end cuts than with a shingle siding. This also means that each peice of siding is
longer, and so covers more of the wall. This in turn means that it can take less time to side a house with
clapboards than with shingles.
There are different grades of siding available, to fit most budgets, and to
suit most aesthetic requirements.
