Drywall
Loosely put, drywall is the gypsum-based product that is underneath the coats of paint and
wallpaper in your home. It's called drywall because it's not made to withstand much moisture.
The vapors from paint or wallpaper are not enough to damage it, but something like plaster
would cause some problems. For plastering, you should use blueboard.
The main advantage of drywall is its ease of use. It cuts with a utility knife relatively easily, and
can but trimmed around electrical boxes fairly easily as well. Once the joints between sheets have been
sealed with joint compound and sanded, the surface is ready for priming and painting. This is faster than
blueboard because there is no plastering step.
Drywall is available in 4' x 8' sheets, as well as 4' x 12' sheets, in most thicknesses.
We stock 3/8", 1/2", and a 5/8" firecode drywall.
Note that we don't stock 3/8" drywall in the 4 x 12 sheets.
