Footballs are not just something you toss around the yard on Thanksgiving. They are also a plug of material
that is glued into the surface of some smoother grade plywoods. They are put there to help to fill the void left
by knotholes. They are not intended to match the grain perfectly. What they do is help to create a nice, smooth
surface to which you can apply flooring, or paint, or simply use as a smooth surface. If you look at the photo to the left carefully, you should see the outline of the football shaped patch in the grain of the wood. |
