Lift
Lift does have the same meaning as you would think it does, given the amount of
lifting involved in building and rennovating homes. It is also a term that describes
a full unit of lumber. A unit, or lift, is usually a cube of lumber, still in the
bands that it was shipped in, and often still with a lumber cover on it. The number
of pieces in the lift varies from mill to mill. It is often more convenient when building
a very large project, like a house, to purchase a full lift of some
dimensional lumber, where you know you will use a lot of one kind of timber. Wall studs
are often shipped as a full lift, since they are used so quickly once framing is underway.
