Plumb

Plumb is not a friut. (That would be a plum.) Plumb is a way to describe something that is perfectly vertical. When you hang a door, it needs to be plumb so that it will not tend to open or close all by itself. It should also be plumb so that it doesn't look like a fun house door, set at a crazy angle. Windows also should be plumb so that they operate correctly. Imagine sliding a window up at an angle. It is also desirable for wall supports to be plumb, since something that is more perfectly vertical is stronger. If the support were slightly out of plumb, then it could bow more easily over time.
