Riser
A riser, also called a kickboard, is an important part of a stairway. For most traditional style
homes, risers are important, as they keep things from getting kicked underneath the stair itself. The
riser is the vertical piece of wood that goes from the stair below up to the underside of the
tread above.
A common height for the riser is around 7". Much higher or lower means the stairway will feel
either very steep flat. 7" is usually a comforable-feeling step up.
