Square
Square actually can have several meanings, depending on where it is used.
In roofing or siding, a square is a unit of measure. It is an area that equals 100 square feet.
It doesn't matter whether it's 10'x10', or some other equivalent measurement. Generally, ordering
roofing or siding is done as an order of a number of squares.
With framing or finish carpentry, square describes joints and angles. A square joint is one that
is exactly 90 degrees, or a right angle. It is often used as a two-part description,
as when a joint is "plumb and square". This means that the joint is at a 90
degree angle, and that the vertical surface is perfectly vertical, thanks to the
use of a plumb bob or a level.
