Undersill trim is a sort of vinyl siding accessory that allows for a nice, clean look underneath a feature in a wall that projects out
somewhat. It gets its name from its most common location - underneath the sill of a window. The trim itself is nailed into the
sheathing, so that it fits snugly to the bottom of the sill. The siding is then cut so that it will
slide into the undersill trim. Generally a few dimples are added to the siding that slides into the trim piece, so that it will be held
up inside the trim. What does the undersill trim accomplish? It gives a nice, clean appearance to the underside of the windows. It also gives a good pathway for rain to run down the outside of the building rather than underneath the siding, where the water could cause rot or other moisture damage. Any water that runs down the outside of the window will hit the undersill trim and be guided down to the outside of the next course of vinyl siding. It is possible to also use j-channel to achieve the same sort of protective purpose. |
