Pressure Treated Lumber
Pressure treated lumber has become the standard for building weather resistant decks. It is cost effective,
and has proven that it stands up to the weather (with the proper maintainance, of course!).
Pressure treated wood itself usually begins as a southern yellow pine. This species
of pine is known for its
durability, unlike the eastern white pine which is a much softer wood. The timber is then exposed to chemicals under
pressure. These chemicals generally include Arsenic and Chromium. These chemicals are toxic to insects and other
animals, and help the wood weather better.
This does mean that you should be very careful in handling and disposing of pressure treated wood. For more
information on proper disposal and handling of pressure treated wood, click here.
We stock pressure treated lumber in most dimensional sizes, ranging from 2 x 4's up to 2 x 12's, even lengths from 8 to 16 feet.
We can also get longer lengths on special request. We also stock posts in 4 x 4, 6 x 6, and other larger sizes in the same lengths.
