Cedar Ayes are a grade of cedar siding that is one step down from the clear
vertical grain siding. The grain is more "flat", which means that you will not get the same nice,
tight grain lines that you see with the CVG, but it is still of a good
quality. These clapboards are also made of cedar, and so possess the same weather defenses as the other cedars. They also accept paint or stain readily. Their main advantage is lower cost. Often, when smaller jobs come up, as with a shed or garage, where expense is a factor, Ayes are a good option for wood siding. There is a practise of installing Ayes with their rough backsides exposed to the weather, but this defeats the purpose of buying this grade of siding. It is also not the side that the mill intended for exposure to the weather. Should you want a rougher siding, perhaps you should look at the Cedar Rustics. |
