| Reqquared and rebutted shingles are usually a premium wood shingle. They are described as resquared and rebutted because they have been cut to be square before they are boxed and sold. With lower grades of shingles, they are not necessarily perfectly square. The usual practice with wood shingles is to cut them so that the joints between shingles are square and snug, and the bottom of the shingles form a straight horizontal line. R and R shingles have already had that done. Thus, the higher cost up front in materials is supposed to be made back by saving on the labor that is usually spent on trimming them, and on the lower amount of waste created (no trimmings!). |
