Shingle Siding
Shingle siding is one of the traditional New England styles that has been around for generations. A drive along Cape Cod or the coast of Maine will virtually guarantee you a look at some homes sided with wood shingles. The shingles themselves are most often made of cedar. This is due to the natural weather resistance of cedar, as well as the fact that it can be trimmed and cut fairly easily.

The most important installation trick with shingles is to avoid at all costs having seams line up. If this happens, then as the siding weathers, the under-layers of the wall will become exposed to the weather. This is because the shingles will shrink and expand over time and seasons, making the seams larger sometimes. By varying the seams, this does not cause any problems, and can look more attractive.
