Trusses
There are two basic sorts of trusses in construction:
the floor truss and
the roof truss.
Each is designed specifically to bear a greater load with less support underneath it, so as to
allow for larger open areas beneath them. They accomplish this through carefully engineered
and tested designs, using primarily wood-based products. This means that trusses are somewhat
light (as compared to steel, anyway), and are easier to work with using traditional tools most
carpenters already own.
